Upon meeting the pre-requisites listed below, candidates may enroll in the GPSTC Basic Jail Officer Training, which is an 80-hour program that takes two weeks to complete. Outside independent study is required. After a candidate has completed the program, they are eligible for POST certification.
Prerequisites
This entry level jail program will prepare the jail officers to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with legislative and case law decisions. Portions of this course will require physical activity and exercises in written communication. Students should bring with them those items needed to participate in these activities.
Basic Jail Officer Training Program Highlights
- Length of Program: 2 weeks
- Tuition: FREE for new jail officers in Georgia; $1,200 for those who have been employed longer than six months.
